What is doing this? It happens on a regular basis.
And how can I prevent it?
Thank you.

First thing you should do is scan your system with several malware
scanners to make sure that an infection is not an issue. Go through the
steps listed on my "Virus Removal" page below.

I have found a suspicious program running- svhost.exe (not svchost).
Closing it seems to stop most popups, but at the same time I have
switched from IE6 to Firefox. I also ran Norton AV and quarantined
a few viruses including svhost.exe.vir. Everything seems fine now
but I have your references if I need them.
Thank you for your help.

Now that you are using Firefox, take advantage of it by installing the
NoScript, AdBlock and Extended Cookie Manager extensions. And don't
forget to use a hosts file like MVPS.
