In this case Sony is using the rootkit as their security model for
protecting the biometrics of the USB memory stick, and not for protecting
their copyright. Even so it's still a very stupid thing to do.

The USB drive has a fingerprint reader on it that requires software
loaded on the computer to operate. I personally will never buy any
Sony products again after the DRM crap, and I've managed to lose them
a whole lot of business by steering clients away from their products.

And a model that is extremely easy even for wannabe script kiddies
because no scripts are needed to employ Sony's own mechanism to hide
malware. That means this Sony scheme will now always get flagged as
malware, even for Sony crap, when the anti-malware vendors add
detection for it.

Yes, it is a crap security model, thinking they could get away with just
hiding stuff away in a hidden folder. They really should pull their finger
out and at the very least perhaps take a lesson from some of the excellent
open source software methods/designs. I dare say even M$ could show them
(sony) a thing or two as well.
