    | Vista does not come with AV. It comes with Windows Defender which is an
    | antispyware application. There are a number of freeware antivirus apps that
    | work fine with Vista, such as AVG, Avast!, and Active Virus Shield. I'm
    | currently using AVS which is rebranded Kaspersky AV 6. I believe you can
    | still get it here:
    |
    | www.activevirusshield.com
    |
    | It may not be available much longer as AOL has switched to a McAfee suite.
    | By the way, AVS comes bundled with an optional AOL toolbar. Just remember
    | to uncheck the box during the installation if you don't want the toolbar.
    |
    | Regarding firewalls, people say the Vista Windows Firewall is much better
    | then the XP version. If you want to try a third party Vista compatible
    | firewall have a look at ZoneAlarm Free and PC Tools Firewall Plus which are
    | both freeware.

    Nope, now retail McAfee :-(

Yes, I see that AVS is no more. However, I wonder about the free McAfee
suite from AOL? I'm not in a position to try it at the moment, but from the
feature list it sounds like it has a lot of potential. Perhaps someone will
test drive it and post a review?

Since it is the Retail version of McAfee -- avoid it !

    Why should it be avoided?

The differences between the retail and corpoprate version are like night and day and the
    retail version just plain sucks.

You may be right, but can you point me to a review with some data that
confirms the retail version "just plain sucks"?

No, not "maybe", but he is right.

Maybe you could google on "macafee bloatware" and "norton bloatware".
Read what you find and make your own opinion.

I'm not trying to be a smart ass here, but after you've dealt with it on a
few customer machines you don't need to waste time reading reviews on the
    piece of ****.

The problems are with the rquirements on the Internet Explorer browser, registration
process, lack of the Command Line Scanner, lack of fully configuring the product, etc,
    etc...
