I just installed Vista and am trying to decide if the firewall and other
antivirus software is sufficient. If not, do all the AV software makers
have products that work with Vista?

Vista does not come with AV. It comes with Windows Defender which is an
antispyware application. There are a number of freeware antivirus apps that
work fine with Vista, such as AVG, Avast!, and Active Virus Shield. I'm
currently using AVS which is rebranded Kaspersky AV 6. I believe you can
still get it here:
www.activevirusshield.com
It may not be available much longer as AOL has switched to a McAfee suite.
By the way, AVS comes bundled with an optional AOL toolbar. Just remember
to uncheck the box during the installation if you don't want the toolbar.
Regarding firewalls, people say the Vista Windows Firewall is much better
then the XP version. If you want to try a third party Vista compatible
firewall have a look at ZoneAlarm Free and PC Tools Firewall Plus which are
both freeware.

I am using ZoneAlarm Internet Security on both my computers and will
probably upgrade to the Vista-compatible version (for my new Vista format).
I know most people here suggest a separate f/w and a/v product, but I really
like the ZoneAlarm Int.Sec. product. I thought maybe I would not have to
upgrade, but it sounds like I should.

Yes, I see that AVS is no more. However, I wonder about the free McAfee
suite from AOL? I'm not in a position to try it at the moment, but from the
feature list it sounds like it has a lot of potential. Perhaps someone will
test drive it and post a review?

Why should it be avoided?

| Why should it be avoided?
The differences between the retail and corpoprate version are like night and day and the
retail version just plain sucks.

You may be right, but can you point me to a review with some data that
confirms the retail version "just plain sucks"?
