hey guys, sorry if posting in the wrong section culdnt find anywhere else. I have a minisd card, which i put into my notebook. Safely remove hardware thing shows up, as SD3 Device. When i click stop on that i see SD3 Device and Generic volume so i think it reads the device fine. However on my computer it doesnt show the removable drive so i cant copy and paste files. Anyone please help me, it was working fine before. Thanks

If you go into the control panel, administrative tools and computer management, double click on services and scroll down to sd card service, ensure that it is enabled/started, if it's not started you may not get the removeable device showing up as a drive in my computer.

If the sd card service is running, another thing to try is to go into the device manager and remove your sd3 device from the disks area then remove the pcmcia card reader, then restart the computer. It should re-detect and re-install the devices, once it has re-installed all your pcmcia devices, insert your sdcard, it should work again. The HP support tech noted that you may need to re-install other device drivers after rebooting, so have your disc's handy for any other pcmcia devices you might have, if this does not work and your pcmcia devices are connected internally through USB root hubs you may need to uninstall all your usb root hubs along with the pcmcia device then restart.

I read that you have tried uninstalling and re-installing your sd card drivers in your first post but that is different than removing the device/s from the device manager.

Have you tried clicking on and selecting remove while in the device manager? you need to do this for the card reader listed in pcmcia and for the sd3 device in the disks area, you may also need to remove your USB ROOT HUBS for this to work.

Sorry, I confused windows xp's device manager buttons with 9x again. Yes the remove button it does = uninstall from the device manager in xp that is what I ment... Only other suggestions are to try letting windows update the driver automatically/search online, and maybe try it again from the beginning, completely uninstal the devices from device manager including usb root hubs, unplugging any usb devices, unplug any memory cards etc. Then restart and let windows search for the device drivers for the usb root hubs, pcmcia card reader etc, then when that is done, insert your memory card or try another memory card. So if that didn't work by chance have you made any new additions to the laptop, software or security changes? The service I was trying to name in administration tools/computer management/services is called smart card service. I'm pretty sure this is the service that handles secure digital smart card authentication. If you have the chance try the card in another system to ensure the card is not dead.

Also found a couple things related to autoplay that will block explorer from seeing the device as removeable media. It states that the device is recognized and installed but does not register, so no drive letter is assigned to the removable media. After re-installing your devices and drivers, try inserting your card, if it still doesn't show up in my computer, hit ctrl+alt+delete, log off, log on and check "my computer" for the device. If your removeable media shows up in explorer or "my computer" with a drive letter after logon, you have that problem and need to patch autoplay. Click HERE to get autofix.exe from microsoft.com
