Re: HighJackThis - Does it Still

    Okay, thanks
I come from a highly dysfunctional family, and have grown to understand a
lot about the differences in people. The fact is I live fairly close and
don't and won't associate with any of them, because of their core character.

    thanks again,
    dc

HiJackThis doesn't search for malware, crapware or viruses. It's list the
programs that start when your computers starts up. That's it.

If you don't know what it is telling you then post the log where someone who
    does know will help you.

Others in this thread have listed some of them.

The following is posted as a Warning from reputible people:

Hi Jack This Utility (Hackware Warning):
    http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/tuto...utorial42.html

    BRIEF:
"If you delete items that it shows, without knowing what they are, it
can lead to other problems such as your Internet no longer working or
problems with running Windows itself. You should also attempt to clean
the Spyware/Hijacker/Trojan with all other methods before using
HijackThis. If you allow HijackThis to remove entries before another
removal tool scans your computer, the files from the Hijacker/Spyware
will still be left on your computer and future removal tools will not
be able to find them. "

You are obviously in the "free line" for security software which is a
disaster waiting to happen. Oh well.... dude whatever - Hi Jack This
is NOT an antispyware software program and do not use it as one. You

If the removal tool relies on registry entries to be present for the
files to be scanned, then this is true. If that's not the case (I don't
know of many that are registry based in this way), BugHunter for example
doesn't care if you use hijackthis. If the file is known to it, BugHunter
will still detect it, regardless of changes made to your registry.

It's a useful tool in the right hands, actually. A disaster waiting to
happen occurs with commercial just as easily as it does with free
software. I don't see why you seem to think that if you pay for it, it
has to be better than if it was free.

There are specific tools for specific infections and should only be
run in guidance with helpers at the different forums. They work in
similar ways, if not the same as BugHunter. As for general Anti-
spyware tools, they all work similar too.

PCButts is a known "copyright" infringer, thieve and annoyance that
come with places like this. It is in general, as adviced already many
times, to just ignore anything said by that person.

Agreed. Many people helping at the already mentioned forums above, use
freeware tools that do just as fine a job as payware.
It is however up to the user to decide whether or not to pay for
something, if you dont have to to get the same if not better level of
    security...
