    MSN My Photos virus

I have a virus on my pc and I was wondering if any of the experts on here
    could help me out, PLEASE.

It was sent via MSN (well Windows Live Messenger is the new name for it) and
it was a rar file that was called My Photos, then a message that said
something like Have a look at the photos of my workplace)

The worrying thing is that AVG was totally up to date and when it scanned
the incoming file it said no threats found, so my wife extracted the photos
and that is when it went a bit weird and shut each MSN contact window down
    and then closed MSN down.

I just thought I would give you the brief details on what or how it got onto
my pc. I might have been stupid but when AVG scanned and said it was OK she
    thought it would be OK.

I have managed to run AVG, Ad Aware and Windows Defender (which for some
reason when all these programs found something it moved them to the AVG
Virus Vault) and it has now found all of these trojans and worms.

This is the list from my AVG Virus Vault

    Virus Identified Worm/VB.AUG
    Trojan horse Backdoor.Ircbot.AK
    Trojan Horse Dropper.Delf.EL
    Trojan horse Downloader.Istbar.9.AV
    Virus Identified Worm /Sumom.C
    Trojan horse Downloader.Agent,MLM

I deleted these from he vault and then tried to scan again in safe mode, but
    both times the scan crashed.

I then tried to run AVG in normal mode and it found Trojan horse
Downloader.Istbar.9.AV in a couple of files located in C/RECYCLER but it did
not complete the scan as it was still running after 7 hours, but it seemed
as if the pc had frozen, other than letting me move my mouse cursor but not
    click on anything.

If anyone can help it would be appreciated.

Were not the answers you received in alt.comp.anti-virus sufficient?
Please return to that thread. Thanks.

I would like to point out that if Far Canal had read my post properly then
you would have seen it was not me, but my wife that did it, and normally no
    I would not.

AVG scanned the file and said it was ok, so she opened what she thought was
something her friend had sent her. It was not her fault as Tx2 said, it can
be quite easily done when you are caught off guard.

Also Beauregard T Shagnasty, I am sorry for posting a question on here as
well as another newsgroup. I did not cross post so I have not broken the law
by asking on here as well as somewhere else. I did not know it was a crime
to ask on more than one newsgroup and I will write out 50 times

I will never ask on more than one relevant newsgroup for a solution to a
problem I have, considering I was not sure what to do and thought it would
be OK to ask in relevant newsgroups if anyone could help me.

I think that should do it.

So considering you have not helped me in any way, if it was that much of a
problem to you then why bother posting a reply to my question with nothing
    more than a sarcastic response.

The reason I asked on different newsgroups is because I was not sure which
one to ask in, so I asked in both.

Then you should crosspost, not multipost...
    Here's why:

If you *had* cross-posted to the two groups, that would have been fine.
It's the *multi* posting that is wrong. With multi-posting, you get two
separate sets of people giving you answers, and doing double work.

Yes he would have saved all this bs from you moron self proclaimed news
police with no idea of how to help someone other than chastise him for not
doing it your way. Grow up and try to post something productive.

They top post because they don't know any better. If they haven't even
learned how to post how could they have gone farther and figured out
    something useful to say?

I'll bet you top-posted to your first grade teacher, too, right? Called
her a moron when she tried to teach you something. Last week.

You probably didn't notice that Dino received a satisfactory answer in
a.c.a-v. Where was the need to answer twice, which is the problem with
    multi-posting.

And I do not think my original statement was non-productive and a
    chastise:

"Were not the answers you received in alt.comp.anti-virus sufficient?
Please return to that thread. Thanks."

...especially since a full day had elapsed between his multi-posts.

Come on man, lighten up. You know that some people are just too important
and in too much of a hurry to waste their time reading the rules.
