It's been a little over a year since Seagate Technology first introduced their DriveTrust security platform for DVR hard drives, a technology that allowed manufacturers to lock a drive to a specific system in order to prevent its recorded content from being copied.

Now, on the heels of some very embarrassing and high profile corporate data thefts – as well as a rush by many companies to respond to new data security and privacy legislation like the Gramm-Leach-Bliley and the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Acts (HIPAA) -- Seagate is expanding the DriveTrust platform to computing systems and mobile devices.
