    Avast update error messages

I'm using Avast Home Edition on a Windows XP SP2 computer, DSL
connection. For the past 7-10 days, I have repeatedly been getting red
pop-up messages from Avast saying it could not update. This error message
usually pops up after the computer has been running for about 7-10 minutes.

I've been using Avast for at least 3 years, and problems with it are
quite rare for me, as the program usually runs trouble-free. Are any other
    Avast users seeing this?

I have another PC in the other room, also using Avast and with almost
the same exact configuration, and am not seeing this problem. Very
    puzzling.

Oops. Sorry. I meant to post this to the anti-virus newsgroup.
Should have gotten more sleep this morning.

Hello there History Fan; did you ever find out why Avast is displaying
this error message? I found your post while searching for the exact
same error. I have been using Avast for the last 2 years and recently
my system is doing exactly what yours is doing.

After bootup, maybe a few minutes later I get a red box that states
that Avast could not update, when I check the "more information"
button - I see that it states it was unable to updatee due to "unable
to find the file specified". I uninstalled and reinstalled Avast
thinking that would solve the issue, but it did not.

I am able to update if I manually select update from the options. Very
    puzzling indeed.

Let me know if you figured it out!

    Thanks and best regards,

    Don
