AOL's browser

I know that it's recommended to use a browser other than Internet
Explorer. Is the browser that comes with AOL just as bad as IE? I'm
not asking for me, I use Firefox. I'm trying to help a relative who
keeps getting spyware. I'm wondering if maybe the AOL browser is part
of their problem.

Unless AOHell has changed something recently, "their" browser is just a
shell over IE. Earlier versions were pure IE with title-bar rebranding.
Convince the relative to join you in using Firefox.

Hides all the toolbars and the homepage hijacks though, however I doubt that
makes up for its all round ****ness.

It is not. AOL qualifies as a full-fledged virus.

What kind of spyware is your relative finding on his/her computer? You have
to find out what it is and how it's getting in. Is it really getting past
the browser or does it piggy-back on some other software that your relative
installs? Does your relative's computer have current anti-virus and
anti-spyware (such as the free "spyware terminator") running with resident
protection enabled?
