Should I be concerned?

I just tried to delete an old bank statement and got the error
message, " This file is being used by another person
or program, cannot delete. Close any programs that might be using the
file and try again." Of course I'm wondering
if there's a trojan in my computer that's the culprit, and it would be
great if Windows XP could tell you which
program was "using" the file, but I guess that's asking too much.

Completely insufficient information.

What bank statement ?
Using what software ?
Was this a disk file used by a program ?

To me, my first reaction would be you misinterpret and OS message completely.

You have two or more windows of an application looking at a disk file and thus tyhe File
Handle is being held open by another process and you can't delete it while YOU have that
OTHER process looking at that file.

Next time you post, please take the time to fully explain WHAT you are doing and what you
are using.

This is not uncommon, especially if you had the statement up in Adobe
Reader when you tried to delete it... ;-)

You could use Process Monitor to see what program(s) are accessing the
file
