    Windows Defender question

Is it possible to configure Defender so that is not running all the time,
but can be used for on-demand scanning?

Go to the tools menu and uncheck, "Use real-time protection (recommended)"
    But I wouldn't recommend it. ;-)
For one thing real-time protection prompts you to accept (or reject)
registry changes that may be due to malware infections.
