You have to REMOVE the vulnerables versions in many of the cases.

for example you have to remove Macromedia Flash v6.x and v8.x before installing the latest
    GFlash v9.x.

In the Secunia Report it should provides hints on what needs to be removed.

    thanks lil'abner,

wish they could tell you these things more clearly at times.

    g'day david,

boy talk about traps and difficulties, ok we made sense out of nearly
all of it now that is all except macromedia flash any version.

i went into install/uninstall program there was one only version of
macromedia flash 8 shown, so i removed it then i went and installed
the latest update from the link provided by "secunia' and i can't find
that installation in the install/uninstall programs section.

nor can i find it ijn the program folders on the tree.

but 'secunia' keeps picking up on the older version:

< Macromedia Flash Player 6.x 6.0.79.0 Macromedia Flash
    Player 6.x

This installation of Macromedia Flash Player 6.x is insecure and
potentially exposes your system to security threats!

The detected version installed on your system is 6.0.79.0, however,
the latest secure version released by the vendor, fixing one or more
    vulnerabilities, is 6.0.88.0.

    Update Instructions:
Update to version 6.0.88.0 or 9.0.28.0.
    http://www.macromedia.com/go/getflash

NOTE: When updating Flash Player, older versions are not always
automatically removed from your system. If older versions were
detected that you believe should not be present, then please contact
the vendor regarding how to remove them from your system.

    Vulnerabilities Fixed:
Read about the vulnerabilities fixed with this update in Secunia
advisory SA22467 (opens in a new window). The Secunia advisory
describes the vulnerabilities fixed by the latest security update. If
your installation is outdated with more than one version, then more
    vulnerabilities may be covered.

    Installed on Your System in:
    C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM32\Macromed\Flash\flash.ocx>

that is all the info' it gives me.

the version that is supposed to be installed is <9.0.28.0>

got no idea where it is but? nor do i know where the old version that
    'secunia' found is?

    tia

    thank you david,

pay dirt scans all clear now.

you took me way outside my comfort zone what i did i may never know
    but it worked.

also another day without those e/mails that started all this.

the only thing that leaves me a little lost is that none of the
spy-ware programs could find those ones that the trend micro scan did.

    Excellent !!

Mitigating vulnerabilities greatly lessons the chance of malware exploiting them to get
    installed on your computer.
