appreciate the concern of not checking sites before they are added to
the hosts file. i used one, if not both (not at the same time) of these
a while back and had issues with the dns service in xp and removed them.

id rather block sites and if i have access issues remove the entries
from the hosts file.

I have used the MVPS file for some years, without problem. I'd recommend it.
Remember to disable the DNS Client in Win2K/WinXP. HostsMan can do this for
you, and update the HOSTS file.

i appreciate the responses. i decided to go with the mvps hosts file for
now and i added a few entries myself. myspace.com being one of them.

what made me do this was my kids trashing their machine at home (moms
house). my kids (11, 15, and 21, girls) are aware of "safe hex", dont
open attachments in emails, dont open emails if you dont know who there
from. they use firefox exclusively as their browser and they have the
same protections (software) installed on their machine as i do here. i
want to try and stop it from happening here (another layer of
protection). i strongly believe they picked up something from myspace
that trashed their machine.

i have way too much time, energy, and data on this little network to
backup, reformat and reinstall.

so far i have found no issues with the host file from mvps other than
adds being block from some of the web sites i visit for news, weather
and traffic. myspace is no longer accessible and thats fine with me.
mission accomplished.
