Crossposting is where you put more than one newsgroup name in the
    address. It's generally regarded as a no-no as it's a favourite ploy
of trolls. I never see anything that's crossposted.

There are some who say it is a no-no but a broad statement such as that is foolish.

Cross-Posting excessively is a no-no. That is to more than say 5 or 6 pertinent, On Topic
related, News Groups. It is the logical and proper way to post one question to a few News
    Groups.

Never multi-post. This is to send separate posts to two or more groups.
This is viewed much less favorably than cross posting.

Cross-posting IS THE PROPER method to post a single discussion to multiple
locations, but, limiting it to 5 or less groups is considered proper. If
you Cross-post to groups the replies and people in the other groups all
get seen by all the people involved in the thread.

Cross-Posting is bad when trolls use it or when a noob posts to 20 groups
or groups that don't relate to each other.

Multi-Posting is bad, it means that people have to read each group you
posted to in order to follow the thread. It also means that a reply may be
missed becase it only shows in one of the groups the source was posted too.
