Last night I received a message to the effect "you are not protected against
a (named) threat". This was rather worrying as NIS is updated automatically
and sometimes, even manually, I thought protection would be 100% up-to-date.
I forced an update (Liveupdate) which found no updates yet the message was
persistent.
I don't understand why NIS was telling me that I do not have protection
against a particular threat when everything is up-to-date. One conclusion
is that Symantec knows of this threat but hasn't yet developed a fix.
On booting up this morning the message has disappeared and there was a
background update of NIS which I can only assume (although I don't like
unverifiable assumption) done the trick.
Does anyone have comments on this please? A little bit of paranoia isn't a
bad thing when it comes to computer threats.
Regards.
