    How can I?

I have a machine in that belongs to a friend. His vision is even worse than
mine. Today something took out the keyboard driver and the mouse driver.
They were both for usb items.

I can't figure out how to do anything about it except reinstall. There is no
way to even log in after bootup. Anyone have any ideas?

Not much to go on. What kind of machine? Windows? What version?
Can you get into bios? If you can, does the keyboard work there?

Windows XP Pro, and the keyboard does work in bios. It doesn't work in Safe
    Mode though.

OK, so it must have worked in the menu where you picked Safe Mode. And
I'm sure your probably tried "Last Known Good Configuration."
If the mouse and keyboard are both USB, then you might try a PS2 mouse
and/or keyboard or vice versa. If you can get *anything* to work, then
you could try doing a system restore back to before the problem started.
That's the stuff I'd try anyway. Otherwise it looks like you're in for a
repair install or a full reinstall.
When I get into one of those situations, I usually clone the hard drive
so I can get all the important data back off it and then start from
    scratch.

Can you plug in a PS/2 keyboard or mouse?

It seems that your USB ports are screwed up.

There was nothing wronig with the USB ports, they were working fine. A ps2
keyboard and mouse didn't do any better.

Thanks for the tnoughts, but no go. I gave up and did a reinstall.

His primary was a small one anyway, so I just copied his "nearly new"
secondary onto one of my machines and reinstalled xp on the newer larger
    drive.
