I avoid all sites that need flash player to work. My feeling is, if
they can't respect my security they don't deserve my business. It
isn't like there's only one or two places on the 'net with the stuff I
want.
I've been using quick time alternative along with some super mega
codec package and it works fine. The rare problem I might see is
cause by someone posting a broken file. - it takes some arm waving
and head scratching to manage all the different video codecs.
ActiveX is just a sleazy way to load or modify programs on one's
computer. For the computer challenged it was intended to make life
easier. For the malevolent scam artists it is also a way to make life
easier, load and modify programs . . . Most of the time it just takes
a little more "arm waving and head scratching" to get the same codec
or progy without using ActiveX.
A useful program for Yahoo mail is "ePrompter" It is designed to
check Yahoo, Hotmail, MailCom and other web based email accounts. No
security risk - it checks your mail and jumps through the hoops (like
mail com diverting me to an ad site before I am allowed to check my
mail)
It downloads the stuff and allows me to read it, reply to it, or just
delete it. Only does text but passes along simple HTML links - While
ePrompter allows scripts, the scripts can't affect the computer - it
isn't a browser just a mail checking program. It is great for spam
catcher email addresses - scan the list, click "mark all read," click
"delete all" and you are done. You can unclick mail you wan to save.
Someday Linux . . . damned if MS will get another dime from me.
I'm pretty sure Slim Browser is an Internet Explorer "shell" - not a
real browser just an overlay for IE.
