What browser do you use?
I'm using Firefox and never see a double click cookie.
The browser is set to keep cookies for the originating site only
(rarely will cause a problem), and all cookies are dumped when I close
the browser.
Add flashblock, adblock, and noscripts (both manager type extensions
that let you choose what sites can use them) and FF is a bulletproof
browser.
I imagine that the sites feel it is in their interest to set DC
cookies. They are all doing it, you have to stay ahead of the
marketeers.
Flash player sets cookies that you have to know about to remove.
Google is now adding a script called "ad sense" on a lot of sites,
Install shield includes a spy that will report your use of a program
back to the authoring site (they have a manager for it too). Flash
player defaults to allow web sites to access a camera and/or
microphone if you have one installed.
Its a jungle out there
