reading http://www.pcworld.com/article/id,12.../article.html# I noticed many of the early portable pcs had the OS on rom. Why doesn't anyone put the OS on an EEPROM? Other than windows xp is so bloated?

Really I think they don't do it because for one it's outdated to an extent and because everything is so bloated....

It would be nice to be able to boot a computer quickly. but I guess that is why we have standby now..

On a good day, it takes my work desktop 2 -1/2 minutes to start. I ahve seen it take over 5 minutes to restart from the time I click restart to the logon screen.

wow...mine usually takes about 1 min to start and restart maybe 2.5....

the laptop out of standby will be maybe a minute, but not on a reboot.
I guess 5 minutes every day for every computer isn't wasting that mcuh time..

That is when I usually reboot, when something stops acting right or when it gets too slow..

yeah.....I just shut down every day when I leave...and usually wind up turning it on when I get here...just easier for me...
