Sorry, I confused windows xp's device manager buttons with 9x again. Yes the remove buttonit does = uninstall from the device manager in xp that is what I ment... Only other suggestions are to try letting windows update the driver automatically/search online, and maybe try it again from the beginning, completely uninstal the devices from device manager including usb root hubs, unplugging any usb devices, unplug any memory cards etc. Then restart and let windows search for the device drivers for the usb root hubs, pcmcia card reader etc, then when that is done, insert your memory card or try another memory card. So if that didn't work by chance have you made any new additions to the laptop, software or security changes? The service I was trying to name in administration tools/computer management/services is called smart card service. I'm pretty sure this is the service that handles secure digital smart card authentication. If you have the chance try the card in another system to ensure the card is not dead.
