I disagree, as setting up VNC requires that the remote person know how to
edit the forwarding rules in their router, GTMPC doesn't.

Ok, so, free, simple.

Ok, so, free, not simple - requires that the user know how to modify their
NAT Forwarding rules.

See VNC, not going to work without modification of NAT Forwarding rules.

See VNC, not going to work without modification of NAT Forwarding rules.

Not needed, just visit whatismyip.com and requires no additional anything.
Remote user can tell local user what the IP is.

And the remote user being available is what was assumed from the OP's post.

And since we're going to assume the OP's remote person is available, it
works fine with a Dial-Up connection initiated by the remote person.

Change - Son does the account as son is providing the support and has a
better chance to interact with the cancel option.

Requires the Dad to be able to edit the NAT Router in order to allow
inbound connection from Son - Son MAY be able to walk Dad through this, or
not.

Ha, Ha, Ha - have dad define another account - why, RD is a bad choice
almost always.

What does matter is that we don't know eithers level of experience or
anything other than they need to share a screen to support. What we do
know is that GTMPC is free, only requires a few minutes to setup, will
work with NAT and most firewalls, does not require a fixed IP, and the
subscription can be terminated.
We also know that with the above, the Son can connect to the Dad's PC,
setup NAT Forwarding, setup VNC, etc.... and then use VNC to provide the
support for free.
So, you can posture all you want, but, for a SIMPLE solution, when we
don't know eithers level of skill, the GTMPC will provide the "easiest"
solution and then let them build any other solution they want.
