    | Why pay for remote service when VNC (RealVNC or TightVNC) are free? If
    | you both have Windows XP then use its included Remote Desktop.

I haven't heard about vulnerabilities in GoToMyPC but there are several major
vulnerabilities that have been exploited in VNC. Albeit, the the latest version supposedly
    has no vulnerabilities.

Whether VNC, Remote Desktop, or GoToMyPC, and since the question is
about doing sporadic maintenance on a remote computer, I wouldn't leave
them running but instead call the other person, have them load or enable
the program, logon (I believe they allow passwords to login), do the
work, and disable it (which would disconnect you and everyone else from
    remote access).
