The product used to be Ewido - which was considered the first or second
best trojan detector on the market (after TDS-3 which sadly was dumped by
the company producing it.) I don't know if AVG has screwed it up since,
but given the massive increase in the use of trojans and spyware, you
REALLY need to be running either it or A-Squared Free. I put A-Squared
Free on ALL my clients machines, and AVG Anti-Spyware on my home user
clients machines.
There really are no other options that I know of. The comparisons of AVG
AV is not relevant, as NONE of the AV systems - even the big boys like
Norton and McAfee - are clearing more than fifty percent of the spyware
and trojans out there these days. Avast and AVG AV are both quite adequate
for home users not afflicted with thousands of viruses a day (as opposed
to corporations who need better protection and can afford it). But spyware
and trojans from Web sites are quite another matter.
If anybody knows any anti-spyware AND anti-trojan tool that is free for
home users (and low-cost for small business) that does a better job than
A-Squared Free and AVG Anti-Spyware, let me know.
