Why does SuperAntispyware Free run in the background?

I recently downloaded the free version of SuperAntispyware. On the
website I read that the free version does not have real time
protection. However when I installed the software and rebooted I
noticed that SuperAntispyware.exe is running in the background.

Why does SuperAntispyware run in the background when it does not
provide real time protection? Especially when it consumes 25-30 MB of
RAM.

Also why is it not integrated in the context menu (like say ewido)
where it can be invoked easily to scan a single file and then exit
after the scan?

'Preferences/Scanning Control' allows you to tick IE context menus.
I don't use this option but I guess it provides what you want.

I don't use the 'run in background' option either.

SUPERAntiSpyware runs in the background so users have quick and easy
access to the scanning, What's Running on your PC, Customer Service
,etc. You can elect to not have SUPERAntiSpyware run in the background
and just use it On Demand if you like.

SUPERAntiSpyware does have the right-click scanning - make sure you are
using the 3.5 version of the software - SUPERAntiSpyware does have to
be running in the system tray/background to use the right-click
scanning in this version.

The amount of memory consumed by SUPERAntiSpyware is really
meaningliness in fact that Windows swaps out memory that is not being
activately accessed - so the amount used really has no impact on your
system performance.

Are you referring ot the real-time protection, or scheduled scanning?
For scheduled scanning, it scans at full speed - in a future version we
are going to allow the user to set the amount of CPU (Low, Medium,
High/Normal) that the background scanning uses.

Why would that be in the background?
It would only take a minute wouldn't it? [ a file or 2 at a time]

I tried Antivir, it starts scanning the entire computer in the background
the minute it is installed. It is highly rated on a hit rate basis, but used
lots of ram, and I had little control over it, so I uninstalled it. That's
what I think of when somebody talks about background scanning. No
scheduling, no access required.

I use FDM for a download manager, its the best free one I have tried, it has
three levels of download speed, allowing one to browse while downloading, I
know this is not an AV, but it shows what I would like in a client of this
type.

The ability to scan and use the pc simultaneously is very desireable.

KISS , is not an easy philosophy to follow.

Since I don't use the background scanning facility of
SUPERAntiSpyware, can I deactivate this module?
SASWINLO.DLL
....or is it required for when I start it up to do a manual scan?

The SASWINLO.DLL is also used to detect and remove hard to remove
malware, I would leave it active.

decided to post it to the SUPERAntiSpyware forums. I posted this on Dec
27th and never got a reply.

I made a search through the forums to see if my question has been asked
before but didn't notice anything so..........

I've not really tried SAS on my home systems here as in reality I don't
really need it because of other protection mechanisms I use however I
routinely recommend it to others.

I decided to give it a shot on one of my systems here using the latest
release, 3.4. I wanted to become a little more familiar with it.

What I find is a little curious to me and would like some clarification.
Once SAS has started the only option it appears to shutdown SAS is by right
clicking the SAS Bug icon in the system tray(of course there's Window's Task
Manager). It does not shut down when selecting Close from the main menu.
After some further experimenting I have found that if the tray icon is set
to display then the above it true however if the tray icon is set to NOT
display then selecting Close or even the X (close) in the upper right corner
of the main gui window will close SAS and remove it from memory.

Perhaps this should be posted in the suggestion forum but not sure if this
is by design or not. I have verified this on 2 systems. It would seem to me
that the SAS tray icon should at least be visible while SAS is running
regardless of whether the main settings are set to hide it or add another
setting to allow for this behavior. As an alternative if the tray icon is
set TO display with SAS running perhaps there should be a dialog box on the
main gui window to allow for shutdown of SAS over and above the right click
menu.

I had thought in the few times I had set it up on others systems that by
selecting Close that SAS was shutting down and freeing up memory. I see now
that is not the case. The reason I question this is with the Free version
Real Time protection is not active so why does SAS need to remain in memory?
