Getting free scan on the net?

I have a new XPME machine so I'm starting all over. After finally
getting 98SE bug free and protected, I am once again at the ground
floor of security/privacy and climbing. :-)

On the page processlibrary.com I see offers of free scans to detect
malware. I don't know who precesslibrary.com is nor who finds them.

Does anybody know if it's safe to permit a scan of my system here?
Has anybody used this free service and lived to regret it?

I wound up on their page while researching a Dell support file that
keeps asking permission to go on the web. It's probably okay, but I
want to research it a bit more. But that is not my question. My
question concerns the free scans on processlibrary.com.

The first thing I would offer is that there is no such thing as XPME.
There is XP and there is ME, with ME being one of the worst OS ever
released. If it's new, then it is either XP or Vista, with the most
likely answer being XP.

Second, I would not recommend using online scans as a primary means of
detecting malware on your system. Use an installed, reputable
anti-malware scanner. There are several very good free scanners
available for XP.

SUPERAntiSpyware -
http://www.superantispyware.com/

Spywareblaster - not a scanner but a proactive malware blocker that
uses registry entry 'kill-bits' that prevent malware installation.

Millennium was not the best to be sure, but properly set up, was ok. My
wife still uses it, refusing to upgrade. I still think Win2K was/is the
best and most stable Windows OS.

I use Win2K and WinME.

I think WinXPME is an accronym for Windows XP Media Edition (Television, video, etc.)
