    Norton - days left

Where does Norton Internet Security get the number of days left for renewal
on the licence? I can't find it. It persists even when NIS is uninstalled
(using the Norton uninstaller) and a the registry has been scanned and
supposedly remove all unwanted entries in the Registry.

    Regards.

    Naughty, naughty!

As it happens, mine is up for renewal, too, on all of my systems, so I
    need to buy a three-pack.

On a friends computer, I had loaded NAV. When there was a problem, I
uninstalled it, ran CClean, followed by MS regclean, followed by
RegCleaner. When I was done, I reinstalled it, and the timer/counter was
    reset.

I've been stymied in the past while doing an NAV upgrade, when the new
NAV thinks the old one is still there.

There must be some innocuous entry somewhere. I think SysInternals has a
tool that will track registry access, but I'm not sure.

    Can't be done.

Thanks Charles & Rube. I'm working on the premis that if 'it' knows this
information it must be stored somewhere on the computer and that NIS is
designed to 'overlook' the information. So, it may be more of a case of
"difficult to do" rather than "can't be done".

BTW I'm not being 'naughty' at all. I have a perfectly legit NIS installed!

    Regards.

Process Monitor, from Sysinternals, might help. You should be able to
track all registry accesses from your processes. You could boot without
NIS, start Process Monitor, then start NIS, looking at all of the accesses.

P.S. I've always wondered myself, "How do it know?"

OK so let's run at this question from a different angle. If you had to keep
information about a piece of software where would you hide it?
