HOST file causing runtime errors?

I have recently added the MVP HOSTS file onto my system, but am getting
occasional runtime errors - but only in my web browser (Firefox 2.0) and
the most recent which occurred when starting MSN Messenger 7

I believe it might be because the HOSTS file is preventing access to
some of the advertising banners within such apps as MSN Messnger, as
well as in within web pages, when the page source code is expecting to
find something loaded (i.e. a banner) that isn't - if that makes sense?

Or am I heading off in the wrong direction here?

I'm not sure what your problem is exactly, but I doubt the hosts file is
the culprit...

No... The hosts file redirects advertisers urls back to your local machine,
so they simply don't come up. It shouldn't cause an application to crash.

Have you tried reinstalling firefox and msn?
