    Sony Handycam

Hi guys, was previously damaudios on the forum, but it seems my account has been deleted? so here i am with my real name and another problem...

My parents own a Sony Digital Handycam DCR-TRV325E which I used to produce a short film a few years ago, recently I have decided to produce a brand new edit of the film to distribute on my website. I have three tapes of varying footage - all of which was filmed using this camera and also a non-digital handycam (which was used after the battery died while on location and a co-star had a camera which took the same tapes).

Over the years it has sat dormant, and only recently have I acquired it to recapture the footage. I bought a new 8mm head cleaner and ran it through the machine (my parents had complained of grey bars across the screen during playback) - I instantly thougth this would solve the problem... but alas, no, even running the while for a while (and not the 10 seconds the instructions advise) it still has these grey bars.

Any more ideas on how to fix this issue?

The tape cleaner is the V8-25CLD which there is no intention whether it is wet or dry. Would this make any difference?

I have read that some handycam reader heads are permantely faulty after a while... don't ask me how old this thing is, though i'm sure it was brand new when it was bought.

    Thanks,
    davidnagel

There is a USB driver for that model; have you tried using it?
