Request succinct info on concurrent AV programs

I know this has been asked before but I've not seen a definitive,
non-conflicting answer. Perhaps someone can answer or refer me to an
authoritative site such as an MS-MVP site that will answer the question
    succinctly.
I have Norton Anti-Virus installed and running on my machine. Rather than
pay for an additional year of updates for the program and the antivirus
definitions, I'd like to run a free program, i.e. Grisoft's AVG.

    1. Can I run NAV and AVG concurrently?
    2. If the answer to #1 is "no," can I change the Norton program in the
startup menu so that it doesn't run and yet keep it installed on my computer
and have the AVG running and providing the anti-virus protection?
    3. If answers to # 1 and 2 are "no" must I uninstall the Norton?

    Thanks.

    Chet

You should not run Norton anything. Stick with AVG or Avast.

I suggest you spring for NOD32 or Kaspersky. Do not run two AV at once.
For Spyware: Superantispyware works well on my machine. I choose the
    "lifetime" option and two liscenses!!
