Ad-aware Definition File Update [SE1R140] 18.12.06

Already tried that. Even tried rebooting
Again offered 140, downloaded, and still 139 indicated.

Tried the suggestions from
http://www.lavasoftsupport.com/index.php?showtopic=1336 without
any joy (18/12/06)
Today (20/12/06) again tried the automatic update on opening the
program - it again downloaded the new file (140) but this time
after installing, the program proclaimed 'SE1R140 loaded'. !!

A friend of mine is always one Ad-Aware update behind everyone else.
She's tried every solution possible without successs. She's no idea
why it happens and nor has anyone else. Like you, she's on NTL cable.

Almost always happens to me. Gave up worrying about it eons ago. It seems
Ad-Aware either downloads and loses the file or downloads and installs the
file and reports the old version so downloads the file again on command (and
again and again...). Either way, multipy this by the percentage of Ad-Aware
users out there who face the problem and you come up with a huge waste of
bandwidth. I have the problems pigeon-holed as bad programming. Ditto all
the Spybot 'bad checksum' problems. Other programs seem to handle updates
better.

My friend's given up worrying about it as well. She treats it as a
bit of a laugh now. She's pleased it's not only her that has the
problem and you're probably right that it's something to do with the
programming.

This is the first time that it has happened to me and I have not
noticed mention of it here.
[That doesn't necessarily mean it hasn't been notified - just
that I haven't seen it].
I have been happy with AdAware, Spybot S&D (with patch for
teatimer) and Spyware Blaster and have had no problems for a long
time.
