windows 98 hijackthislog

Hi, I am helping my friend with his windows 98 machine which has had some freezing problems among other things. I hope you guys still work on windows 98 machines. I have followed your instructions in the "Please read and follow these instructions before posting for help" notice. I found and cleaned 15 or 16 Trojans and quite a bit of spyware. It had a program called SpamblockerUtility that was infected with 2 trojans and was a little difficult to get rid of. I deleted one through dos and uninstalled the program which seemed to get rid of the other trojan.

I have run bitdefender which was the only thing that found three of the trojans (one of these was a dropper.vb which also had to be deleted via DOS). I tried to run housecall, pandasoftware online, and symantecs online scan and none of these will work for some reason. I found kaspersky personal antivirus on Majorgeeks which was supposed to be for all windows but it would not install. It gave an error message saying it was not compatible with the OS.
I am now at the point where Spybot and Adaware are not finding any problems . Also AVGFree and Bitdefender are not finding any problems. I still cannot run housecall, pandasoftware's online scan or Symantec's online scan for some reason. They quit in the middile of the scan saying 'internet explorer has encountered a problem and has to shut down".

Hi Iloo,
Don't be concerned for now if those online scans will not run, sometimes they just don't. I really don't see anything in particular jumping out in your log. Are the freezing programs still happening? What programs are running when this happens? Does it happen both on and off line? How large is the hard drive? How much RAM is installed? Any new hardware installed? How about new software?
When did the freezing problem begin? Have you run diskcleanup, scandisk, defrag lately?

Hi Judy,

The computer seems to be running smoothly and quick now whether online or off. There is 320 mb of ram, a 12.7GB Hard drive with 7.22 GB of free space. I don't believe any new hardware has been added. There are no problems indicated in device manager. I don't know of any new software which has been added other than the anti-virus and anti-spyware which I have added to clean the computer. I have run the disk cleanup. I am running the defrag and Scan Disk now.
