    Thoughts on IE7?

I've blocked Microsoft Update from loading IE7 on any of my computers,
but it keeps reminding me of that fact.

Note that I, and my family, use FireFox almost exclusively. There are
some websites that work a lot better in IE. My wifw has gotten really
good a copying a URL from FF to IE when she needs to.

Does anyone have any experience with IE7?

    Is it really more secure?

    Are there any holes?

Is it faster, smaller, or better in any other way?

Hi Rube.....I tried it for a couple of weeks and removed it a few days
ago. I wasn't really keen on the interface and like yourself, I use
    Firefox 99% of the time.

There are one heck of a lot of complaints on the MS Internet ng from
obviously a lot of people that are having problems you and I wouldn't
    have.

However, one final point. Tell you wife to download "IE View" from
Firefox extensions and if she hits a page that needs IE, click on that
and it will open in IE forever after that.

    Cheers.....Heather

If I can't view a site in FireFox, I just forget about it. I don't need any
site so much that I am willing to accept the increased risk with IE.

The price of using IE is too high. Even if Microsoft has increased
security, there are so many adjustable features in IE that I can't figure
    out which ones are safe.

Microsoft has been eclipsed by FireFox, and they just cannot overcome the
rising tide. If they had any common sense, they would put a button on the
menu bar that would give "Maximum Security" when clicked. Who has the time
to master all of those individual adjustments?

All we want to do is to browse the Internet without leaving a bunch of
unguarded ports open so malicious users can't invade our systems. Can't
Microsoft figure that out? Who needs 'em when there is FireFox?

No problems from here with IE7.

I think most software that is sold or marketed to millions of people has a
lot of people with problems, but as a percentage of users I think it is
    minute.

Yes, you are right. No one ever comes on those ng's to say "I love IE7
and am having absolutely no problems with it", lol.

A lot of the problems really have nothing to do with IE7, and everything
to do with clueless users!! But I just plain didn't care for the
upgrade as I rarely use IE, so removed it.

OTOH, I had a problem with the new FF 2.0 and removed it as well.
Wonder if IE7 had anything to do with that?? Just might give it a whirl
again. But checked the Mozilla Forums and as with IE7, there are a
multitude of people with different problems.

My take?? I think a lot of developers put new upgrades/updates out
before they are fully functional. Lavasoft comes to mind.

I had difficulty with a number of web sites used internally and externally
for various functions (web usage reporting, anti-spam system, etc..) so
loaded FF 2.0 and that fixed all but one of the sites. I then "downgraded"
IE7 and "poof" FF 2.0 started working on the site that previously wasn't
working. IE7 does mess with FF 2.0, but I'm not exactly sure what it was
that caused the problem. I use IE7 at home and have not had any problems.

Thank you, Default......I just got in and saw this. I will reload FF
2.0 tomorrow and see. I had a lot of freezing on sites that had heavy
graphics. Did you download it over 1.5?? I had both of them in
Add/Remove at that time. I usually keep a copy of my Profile elsewhere
on my HD when I update FF.

I use the Firefox "User Agent Switcher" extension, and haven't found
an IE-only site yet it won't fool (haven't tried Microsoft's though).
It opens the site in Firefox, and I have IE completely blocked from
    internet access by my firewall.
