    Well, we live and learn. I've been running Alvira and ZA for a while and
    only after reading your post did I noticed that of which you complain.
    Since it never bothered me before and I can't see any cpu activity by
    either app when idle and I like both apps I'm just going to ignore it
    unless there is a fix which of course I will test. If it really bothers
    you, Avast remains a very close 2nd to Avira. I could be happy with
    either one.

    Except that if you like to have Zone Alarm "stop all internet activity" by
    activating its lock after a period of inactivity, it can't because it
    thinks a program is always trying to contact the net through that loopback
    port. That's why I'm probably going to reload Avast (although it slows
    down page rendering a bit with all its shields).
