    Ad-aware, Spybot and Windows Defender

I am using these three "free" programs, but none of them could detect
the "trojans" which were detected McAfee AntiSpyware Enterprise (MASE).

Are the "free" edition of these program less effective than the "paid"
    ones?

    Any comments/suggestions are appreciated.

    Thanks,

    A Monk

The one detected by MASE was "c:\kxldtqov.exe PWS-JA(Trojan). Googled
and noted that this trojan was already available in 2005.

What do you mean by "Please nic pick elsewhere?"

This is a newsgroup on "spyware". Trojan is a form of spyware, isn't
    it?

A trojan could be used to implant spyware, but it is not tecnically
spyware itself, and is usually used for much more nefarious purposes.

The three programs you are using are strictly for spyware, and they are a
good triple threat for that purpose. For freeware apps that detect trojans
and virus, try Stinger, AVG, A Squared, or AntiVir

No. There are so many trojans out with hundreds more per day that it's
impossible for all apps to keep up. Just consider yourself lucky that one
did, considering the likelyhood of unsafe hex your practicing...

BugHunter is fairly decent at detecting trojans.. certainly more than
    stinger. <g>

    Dustin,

Would it be difficult to add a new option to Bug Hunter? As one of the
scanning options, how about "Scan for malware and prompt for Remove, Rename,
    or Ignore."

    BugHunter v1.9.4 Released October 13th, 2006

    1. Gui Update: New selection, D- allows you to select
what happens to files that are detected as malware
on a file by file basis.

    Already done
