What you need is a reputable small builder. They are hard to find. It
isn't that there aren't any, there are, they're just scarce and well
    hidden.

Illogical, since you can buy an OS w/o a computer . . .

We build computers all the time & sell 'em w/o OS' if anyone's interested .

With a day's worth of research you can find out how the parts go
together and what goes with what, after that it's easy. It has to be,
I've been doing it for years.

A couple of years ago my brother expaneded his roofing business in
Plano, right after a major hail storm. They generate a lot of business
all at one time. He rented a larger office and needed three machines
very fast so I bit the bulled and picked him out some Compaqs. It was
a serious pain removing all the "extra features" but we thought it
would be faster than building three from scratch, and since the
Compaqs were being kicked by HP who'd just swallowed Compaq up they
were reasonably cheap for what they were. It was hard on me though,
    removing all the crap.

Certainly you can. That does have legal justification. In fact that
was one of the things Microsoft got their ass in a crack about a few
years ago. They were charging Dell for an OS on every computer Dell
built, whether it actuall shipped with Windows or not.

I stand corrected. But then I knew custom builders could do this. The
way the question was phrased left me thinking in terms of large OEM
builders and I thought that might be a problem marketing that to the
general public. But you guys would know better them I would.

For what it's worth, BugHunter does remove most of the flavors of
WildTangent; which is bundled with alot of name brand computers these days.

Don't forget about chipset incompatability issues... You do know some
chipset's will cause problems with other hardware right? It's not
    entirely universal.
