    Photo Gallery

I don't know if this was a coincidence or not, but I had two different
people bring computers in today with the same problem. When Windows boots
up, the "preparing to install" window pops up with "Photo Gallery" in its
title bar. The progress bar goes across about a time and a half and then
you're prompted for a CD. You have to click Cancel numerous times to get
out of it or it will start right over.

Neither customer had a clue what it was and hadn't been trying to install
anything. One of them had Kodak Easy Share installed and I thought maybe
it was something to do with that. But the other one had just done a
system restore and didn't have hardly *any* software installed. That's
the one I'm working on right now. I've turned everything off in msconfig
and that has stopped it from trying to install at boot.

Currently I'm installing antivirus and anti-spyware, but I'm not really
expecting to find anything since it's a clean install.

Does "Photo Gallery" ring a bell with anyone?

It may also be a coincidence that M$ released new updates for XP
    yesterday...

It does ring a bell with me but it happened about 3 months ago, The fix that
worked for me was to uninstall the software, as the customer had no clue and
had never used it. And I quote "it has done that for almost the whole time
    I've owned the computer".

I think it was an HP bundle software thing
