    READING alt.privacy.spyware INSTALLS SPYWARE

No Im not kidding. this interesting feature installs a cookie in your
    cookies
files which relays your e mail address and other information to
    doubleclick
dot com and you will then receive spam mail. this happens every time
    you read
or post in this newsgroup using internet explorer and some other
    browsers.
you may wonder:" how do i get rid of this?" another interesting
    topic...
lol, no this is not a joke its for real and oh, the irony--mykey

I'Ve never ever seen my Newsreader (a specific program designed to
*only* read and write to usenet groups like alt.privacy.spyware) accept
any cookie, as Mesnews doesn't even *support* them.

On which mirror *WWW* web page have you been? Usenet is *not* WWW; it
is a separate portion of the internet, and even older; just in case you
    haven't noticed it yet.

its absolutely true and has been
repeatedly verified. where do you think
all the spam mail comes from?
its being generated by cookies files
that are in millions of computers.
erase all the cookies and the spam stops.
many of those reading were not aware that
everytime they read here (or in many other
places for that matter) your computer is being
    scanned and your personal information
    is being stolen.
just because you say its impossible does
not make it so. its about time you guys
woke up and smelled the roses.
think this is a bad idea? until we get rid
of this spyware and the spam mail, its
    a very good idea.
PS there is no such thing as a secure site.
you just want to believe there is.

ok non believers, run this scan on your
    system:
    http://www.pandasoftware.com/products/activescan.htm
when prompted, click "scan my computer"
this takes about 15 minutes, depending on
the speed of your system, or it may take
longer depending on how much crap has
    infected your system.
then read the report and weep.

He isn't using a newsclient, he's posting via google with a browser.
I'm guessing he doesn't even realize there is a difference.

Usenet readers don't use cookies. If you are using a web browser to read
Usenet then you are a noob.

    8>< a load of drivel

    Don't talk wet!!!

I've never heard such a load of adolescent bunkum!!

The spam is caused by harvester bots *not* by cookies. A newsgroup
can't and doesn't generate cookies as any 5 year old knows. Why do
you think I use a spam trap address????

Spam is generated by dictionary attacks.

Erasing cookies won't stop the harvest bots because they don't go for
cookies. They go for any email address anywhere on any site.

I don't allow cookies on my PC without specific permission and they
are erased immediately I leave a site.
