I suppose it wants to keep a tally of how many people, and how often,
the program is used, being free'n'all. I doubt if there is anything
malicious going on. Others do it as well, for example:

Set your firewall to Alert on the call, and block it. It *should* still
create your PDF document - at least pdf995 will.
