I actually (believe it or not) have a valid question this time.
If I enable power on with LAN - how exactly would I go about executing that??

Its my understanding that WOL will bring a computer out of sleep mode anytime the network card is pinged.
Here is what wikipedia says http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wake-on-LAN
and another tutorial site http://gsd.di.uminho.pt/jpo/software...an/mini-howto/

Thanks, I'll have to look into those...I'm am going to read them, but I need to do this ping from a remote location...say I need to ping my home computer from work to wake on lan and it's on a network....but I'm sure we'll think of something...

can you ping thru their firewall? Probably not.
you will need a computer that you can remote control and you will need to set the router to allow you to get thru to remote control the router.
Give me a couple minutes to get into my router and find the protocol and settings to allow it.

Yup, we are allowed to ping throught the firewall to my knowledge...I already have RD setup and it works flawlessly, I just need to get the ROL to work...

It looks like in the forwarding options tab of your router (all routers between the outside and the computer your going to control) you need to set a custom forwarding option for port 3389 with the IP address of the computer your going to control. The internal port is also 3389. and check the protocol TCP option.

You may be able to ping out, but I would bet you cant ping into the network. the companies first router in the DMZ will stop it there. You will need to get control inside the dmz to ping any of the local ip addresses.

I know how to set up the forwarding, I had to do it for RD. As soon as I figure what exactly I have to do when pinging it I'll try it. I just don't know what command to use to do it...

Bear in mind, I haven't done this on multiple router systems.
Log into your router. and find your forwarding tab. add a custom forwarding option for port 3389

Done...I had to do it when I set up RD.
Keep in mind this isn't a multiple router system. I just have my modem and router before my desktop at home that I want to use it for.
There are routers at work also, but that shouldn't make a difference...should it?
