WMP 10 wont recognize my CD-RW

    Hi,

I'm posting this here as per JHolland's direction, so, here we go:

I have Windows XP Professional w/SP 2. I was trying out Windows Media Player (WMP) 11 Beta and it wasn't working. I also had CCleaner, which may be related to the start of my problem but that info could be false...

I tried to roll back to WMP 10. Then WMP wouldn't acknowledge my old trusty Samsung CD-RW burner. So I ditched CCleaner and I downloaded WMP 10 and installed it. WMP still wont recognize my CD-RW. I've played around with a variety of things but cannot figure out what will make it work again.

    Please advise! Thank you!!!!!

    Naomi

    This is from Microsoft:

    1.
    Open My Computer.

    2.
In the Devices with Removable Storage area, right-click the drive, and then click Properties. If your CD drive is recognized, you will see a Recording tab.

    3.
Select the Enable CD recording on this drive check box.

    Been there, Done that...

I tried all of what I could find at MS.com and nothing helped. Also, my OS for some inexplicable reason does not have those things the way it says they should. But I know the CD-RW works. I've been using it for years, and it worked with my WMP 10 before I hosed the whole operation by trying 11 Beta.

    Still need help.......

    Thanks,
    Naomi

    Further clarification

My D drive, as it is on my PC, has the following tabs in the properties:

General, Autoplay & Hardware. Maybe it isn't being recognized, but if not, why? It used to work...

Have you tried uninstalling the drive and letting Windows redetect it?

Yes. It's been reinstalled, and that didn't fix the problem. The drive will play CDs and WMP will RIP from it, but it doesn't see it as a RW drive. But it's the same one I always used with WMP 10 before. I also had this problem before once, and I got help and fixed it. But that thread is gone from IANAG now, and I can't remember what worked.
