What I'm thinking of is using Avast as my main AV program (with it's
multiple shields). Is there anyway of installing AVG or Avira free
versions and not have it load as a startup program, so that it can be run
as a 2nd AV check when necessary?
I was thinking of a normal install (where they usually insinuate their
dll's or exe files into resident memory), then using either MSCONFIG, Mike
Lin's startup, or Process Explorer's Autorun utility to remove the process
from running (or just do a regedit command myself). I would also check
services to see if a service was added and change it from AUTO to manual
(or disable and run it when necesssary).
