    Valid claims???

    Hi

This is from the links from the web site
    http://www.auditmypc.com/intrusion-prevention.asp

    Clicking at the last link
    http://www.auditmypc.com/web-securit....asp?cat_id=43

    I get to here
    http://www.defeatspyware.org/reviews.html
and I found the statistical claims on Windows Defender, Lavasoft's Ad-Aware
    & SpyBot's Search & Destroy scarely believeable.

    Further
    http://www.spywarezapper.com/
    http://www.spywareremoversreview.com/
look dubious, the last particularly so

    Any comments?

    Stephen Howe

Looks to me like the classic reseller promotion site - our tests (in
our lab) show different results against actual live infections. They
also didn't diclose much about the actual tests except "109
    infections".

I had written a blog about this exact topic here:

It might provide you some additional food for thought.

While looking at that, I read your blog entry on cookies, where you said
    this:

Because of their use in tracking, many feel that this constitutes
spyware. Most anti-spyware applicatoins, including SUPERAntiSpyware,
detect tracking cookies in one form or another. If an application
does not detect cookies, users often feel the application is
"missing" critical spyware items because another scanner will detect
them and label them as "spyware".

There's another side to this worth considering. If you DO detect
tracking cookies, especially in a free version of a product where a paid
version is also available, there will be people who think tracking
cookies aren't a big deal, and you are just detecting them to scare the
user into thinking they've got a problem and need more protection.

It's a "damned if you do, damned if you don't" situation for the
    developer.

Tim - agreed - the difference with SUPERAntiSpyware is that the Free
Edition does remove items - you are not required to purchase anything
to remove spyware - the Professional version simply gives you scheduled
scanning and real-time protection, and priority customer service.
