    Getting rid of drivers

Alright. I need some help. Just last week I got myself a TV tuner card. And I KNEW that I needed to get updated drivers. Well, when I got them, I got them for the wrong card. And NOW I can't get rid of them at startup. They always make my computer hang....

My question is...how do I get rid of the drivers/driver service??

I've looked in the services list...and in msconfig...even HJT and can't find them...they wound up getting uninstalled for the RIGHT drivers...and now I can't get rid of them..

Which operating system are you using? You don't say.
You might try a registry edit, if you know what you are doing...
Be sure to back up the registry first before trying an edit
The services are listed in the Registry (regedit.exe), under this key:
    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Servic es\

    My big bad....

    XP Pro.

I'll try the regedit. I thought about that, but I didn't know where they were located in there.

Well I tried to delete the keys I thought were causing this...but deleting them caused problems...i.e. my TV card stopped working and I couldn't do anything with it regarding drivers.

Try removing the card then bootup and remove the drivers through Regedit. It's most likely redetecting the card. Also see if you can ID the .INF file(s) and remove them from C:\Windows\INF directory

Thanks Charlie! I won't be able to do this tonight...I have to do some recording and homework, but on Saturday I'll give it a whirl and post the results.

Found several references stating that TV Tuner cards and/or their drivers are not very compatible with XP and XP Pro. That one should use a Media Center OS for them to work properly. Maybe this could be the problem.

Also go to the Driver File Details in the System/Hardware/Device Manager and delete those as well.

Thanks for the info! The card works fine. I just tried to update the drivers and got the wrong ones. So I'm trying to take off the wrong ones that I already deleted, yet still try to load on startup.

I will look in the driver properties of my card drivers when I get home. I'll have to do it tomorrow, but I'll look.

    Lightbulb

    Hi guys,

I had a very hectic last fewweeks plus the darn flu the last several days....hell!!

Anyhow, Gizmo, have you tried downloading Autoruns?

No installation required but when you run the program, check the 'Hide MS Entries' in Options then scroll all the way down on the 'Everything' page to HKLM\System\CurrentControlSet\Services and then delete (or at least disable) the related entries.
