You can find out your EXACT version by issuing the following command in a Command Prompt...
java -version

Just what is going on with the Java Runtime updates? I have JRE 5 update 8
installed. I just checked www.java.com and it is offering update 6.
I recall some time ago that update 9 had been pulled but hadn't heard that 8 and
7 had also been pulled.

There are *many* experts and novices alike saying the same thing, "what the f**k !", while
scratching their head in disbelief.

I hadn't heard anything......and I do have update 9 on here. Is it
supposed to be removed and replaced with 8?? I still have 7 and 8 in my
downloaded programs folder, so could replace it. But I have had
absolutely no problems with it.

Sun has released Updates 7, 8 and 9. 9 is available if you want
it. Update 6 is what you get if you have Windows and go to the
main Java site or you perform an update via Java itself. Update
6 patched a security hole. 7 - 9 contain bug fixes. So...
unless you are having Java problems using Windows and go to the
Java support site, Update 6 is all you need.
P.S. Sun issued an alert that said if you keep older versions
(Update 5 or earlier) on your machine you are still vulnerable.
