    Kaspersky spyware

Kapersky Internet Security 6.0 has a spyware component to make it a complete
product. I know the anti-virus part is very good. HOW GOOD IS THE SPYWARE
COMPONENT? If not good, how might I supplement for real time watch?
    Ideas?

    Pete,

I have successfully used these with KAV 6.

    Ad-Aware - on demand
    (http://www.lavasoftusa.com/products/...e_personal.php)
    a2 (a-squared free) - on demand
    (http://www.emsisoft.com/en/software/free/)
    a-squared Anti-Dialer - on demand
    (http://www.emsisoft.com/en/software/antidialer/)
Ewido Security Suite (Now AVG AS) - real-time
    (http://www.ewido.net/en/download/)
    Spybot S&D - on demand
    (http://www.safer-networking.org/en/spybotsd/)
    SUPERAntiSpyware - real-time
    (http://www.superantispyware.com/)

    1) All of the above apps are free for personal use, read the EULA. And
all of them (except Spybot S&D which is donationware) offer a pro
    version for a licensing fee.

    2) I have been using SUPERAntiSpyware Pro (real-time enabled,
automatic updates, scheduled scanning) since May with KAV 6 with no
    problems.

    3) I used Ewido real-time enabled for a month with KAV 6 until the
trial license expired, and it reverted to freeware. I now use it for
on-demand scanning only. No problems either way.

    4) Early on with the release of KIS/KAV 6, people were reporting
problems with SpySweeper. I believe that this was on SS's end, and has
since been resolved. At least I haven't seen too many complaints
lately about conflicts between SS and KAV 6.

    5) People have reported problems using Windows Defender with KIS/KAV
6, and are usually advised not to use it. Conflicts with WD may be a
sign of things to come for all AV apps.

    6) I tried to use a-squared Anti-Dialer real-time, but it really
bogged down my system. It might work better with a2, but I only used
    it with SAS.

    7) Keep in mind that spyware (and adware) has a tendency to exist in
the eye of the beholder. Kaspersky generally only focusses on the
really nasty stuff, not what you might call annoyingware. As a result,
you will see people wondering why Spybot S&D or Ad-Aware caught
something that KAV/KIS let through. And KAV/KIS will not catch any
cookies, no matter how bad they might taste.

Try all of the freeware scanners to see what you like, and then decide
if you want to shell out some dough for a pro version. I did, and I
purchased a license for SAS Pro. IMO, a good decision.

Thanks for that information. Not sure yet what I'll do.
I do like Kaspersky, so the first step was a good one.

YW, Pete. I should have pointed out that the spyware/adware that
KIS/KAV detects is included in the KAV definitions/databases. If you
use KAV with updated signatures, you are protected against what KL
considers no-doubt-about-it spyware. The nastiest of the nasty.

The Anti-Spyware module of KIS 6 is a misnomer as most people consider
an Anti-Spyware app. It detects and blocks things like banners and
other annoyances, and has nothing to do with spyware per se.
