How to check if you have Java:
Go to http://chir.ag/stuff/sand/
Do you see:
A: Text at the top, or
B: Text at the top and a confusing thingyamajigger thing taking up most
of the botton of the screen with a tannish creature-like-thing.

If A, you do not have java, and you may download it at
http://www.java.com/en/download/index.jsp

If B, you do.
