    Spybot showing more false positives

The latest update of Spybot 2005-04-08 is finding about 30 entries or so in
my hosts file and calling them Coolwebsearch.Smartm? and another which I
don't recall at the moment. I am using a combination of MVPS Hosts and HPGuru
Hosts. All of these are redirected, of course, to 127.0.0.1.

    Just FYI

Yes, I noticed similar results with the latest Spybot update. I think the
Spybot people are doing their best though. Unlike some other people jumping
    on the Spyware/Adware bandwagon.

    How about this one:

After running scans with the latest updates of Webroot SpySweeper and
Ad-Aware SE Pro, which both told me my machine totally clean, I decided to
test a new program called PestBlock.

The PestBlock scanner told me that it had detected "753 Pests" on my
    machine.

On further examination, NONE of these "Pests" were actually Spyware or
    Adware.

The PestBlock scanner picked up all the files and registry entries for
    programs like FlashGet,
Bearshare Pro, LimeWire Pro and Kazaa Lite etc.

I found this peculiar because the registered versions of these programs
(which I have) contain no Spyware or Adware at all.

I wonder how many inexperienced users have been frightened into performing
totally unnecessary "clean-ups" by programs scan results like this?

People that use P2P file (music) stealing applications deserve _ALL_ the
cr@p that the P2P applications deliver.

Re: Spybot showing more false positives

Hello "policeman" RolYat, your opinion is duly noted and ignored.

However, I think you may be confused.

Whilst it is obvious that downloading files using P2P programs can put you
at risk of being infected with "malware", the post was not actually about
    that.

The post stated that the spyware scanner identified the actual P2P programs
themselves as containing Spyware/Adware, which they do not.

I hope this help you with your confusion.

By the way, I just heard that a nine year old boy in Canada has recently
downloaded a "pirate" copy of "Children's Favourite Disco Dance Tunes" from
Shareaza. Of course, when I heard this, I immediately informed the FBI, the
CIA and the "Indonesian Military Capture, Interrogation and Torture
    Service".

But sadly, they all told me to f**k off and stop wasting their time.

*Deep sigh*, oh dear, it's so hard being the world's policeman these days.
