Dak ... is there a workaround that might involve the .ini file?
    Thanks in advance.

The manual update writes the wrong line to the "download.ini" file.
Spybot S&D reads the RELEASEDATE line under the [includes.zip] header
for displaying in the program, which the internal update writes to, but
the manual update writes/adds an UPDATEDATE line instead.
I understand that this issue is known and is to be fixed in a later
    release.

The manual update does update the "downloaded.ini" file, but instead of
updating the "ReleaseDate=" line it adds the "UpdateDate=" line, so the
    program display isn't changed.
Now that I think about it, I believe the "UpdateDate=" line is the
    manual update's equivalent to the internal/auto update's "InstallDate="
line and will show the actual date it's applied and not when it was
    released.
At any rate, either way, it's a known issue and to be corrected in a
    later release.

Not that I know of (or have been able to find or figure out), sorry.
    It's downloaded from <http://security.kolla.de/updates/spybotsd.ini>
(Patrick's site) directly by Spybot when you check for updates. It's
this control file that contains all the needed update information.
I have no idea how to redirect the fetching of this file, or if it's
even possible. And if I did, I don't have an old, good "spybotsd.ini"
file to use as a pattern, mine's a copy of the corrupt one.
I'm sure it will be corrected as soon as Patrick knows about it, but it
could also be as late as Monday morning (in Germany).
As it stands, the two choices are manual update or wait....

Mine updated fine this morning. Shows 8th April 2005 in the 'about' screen.
