    Spybot S&D no longer updates

Was running version 1.3. I could not get any updates all of the
sudden. Somehow all of the mirrors have disappeared except the EON
Australia. When I connect to it, it says there are no updates even
though I know there are. I downloaded the newest version 1.4B2 and
installed it on top of my earlier version. I was not expecting an
upfrade to version 1.4B2 or I would have uninstalled V1.3 first. I
still have the same problem of not being able to update it. The latest
update according to the progream was in March. I know that there was
    an update on 4/7.

Has this program some how been hijacked?

    Thanks for any input.

Where did you get that information? According to their site, the last
    update was on 3/19.
You're probably thinking of AdAware. They had an update on 4/7.

    OK. You're right. I'm wrong... :-)
I downloaded the new definitions manually and the file dates are indeed
newer. But, like everyone is saying... it still "says" 3/19.

Spybot pulls the date from the includes.zip file in the spybot\updates
folder. When you manually update and extract the files to the spybot\includes
folder you do in fact have the latest version, but unless you save the zip
file to the \updates folder Spybot does not show the new date.

Disregard the above ..... correction below.

When you do an automatic update, Spybot writes to the file downloaded.ini
which is in the \Spybot\Updates\ folder. When you do a manual update and
extract the files yourself then the .ini file does NOT get updated. The
date Spybot shows on the Info tab is drawn from this section in the
    downloaded.ini file.

    [includes.zip]
    ...
    InstallDate=2005-04-08
    ReleaseDate=2005-04-07 <<<<< this date
    ...

The manual update does update the "downloaded.ini" file, but instead of
updating the "ReleaseDate=" line it adds the "UpdateDate=" line, so the
    program display isn't changed.
Now that I think about it, I believe the "UpdateDate=" line is the
    manual update's equivalent to the internal/auto update's "InstallDate="
line and will show the actual date it's applied and not when it was
    released.
At any rate, either way, it's a known issue and to be corrected in a
    later release.

No, neither Spybot S&D nor the website has been hijacked. The problem
is not with Spybot S&D, nor is the problem on your or any other user's
    end.
The problem is with a corrupted "spybotsd.ini" file (that's the
downloaded updated information file) residing on Patrick's server, not
    the update servers.
It truncates after the [-Mirrors.disabled] section header, so Spyware
S&D is never notified that there is an update to download.

Dak ... is there a workaround that might involve the .ini file?
    Thanks in advance.

Not that I know of (or have been able to find or figure out), sorry.
    It's downloaded from <http://security.kolla.de/updates/spybotsd.ini>
(Patrick's site) directly by Spybot when you check for updates. It's
this control file that contains all the needed update information.
I have no idea how to redirect the fetching of this file, or if it's
even possible. And if I did, I don't have an old, good "spybotsd.ini"
file to use as a pattern, mine's a copy of the corrupt one.
I'm sure it will be corrected as soon as Patrick knows about it, but it
could also be as late as Monday morning (in Germany).
As it stands, the two choices are manual update or wait....
